I recently bought a sewing machine. My motivation being that I would in no time have the ability to sew all the pretty little dresses I see dancing around at parties in my head. I imagined that I would pick up sewing so quickly, that I could in fact save myself from ever having to buy a dress again.

I have crazy thoughts.

The last time I successfully sewed something, was 15 years ago in Home Economics class. And it was a pillow. My sewing machine is currently still in it's box, but that hasn't stopped me from going online and purchasing about 20 vintage dress patterns. I can perfectly visualize all my future outfits, but I still haven't found the courage to open the box and get started.

I am looking into some sewing classes though and my friend Aliya promises to give me a get started lesson. In the meantime, I'm obsessing over the styles of some of my favorite style icons.

60s babes like Francoise Hardy, Jane Birkin, Marianne Faithfull, Lou Doillon, and Pamela Des Barres, I'm totally channeling you!

On September 12, rising indie-country crossover star Nikki Lane was a guest on my show. Our mutual friend Semi introduced us a while back just as Nikki was in the process of recording her first album. In a very short time, Nikki has become quite popular in the fashion community and is currently championed by the people's fashion bible... you know, Vogue. Not a bad start!

Make Out on Guilty Pleasure

On Monday February 7, new indie pop punk band Make Out dropped by East Village Radio to play me some tracks off their debut EP. The brains of the band is former Junior Senior brains Jesper (aka Junior). His new band is fronted by the energetic and very adorable Leah (her step dad is NY Dolls frontman David Johansen).

Last night, three members of Asobi Seksu were on my show to promote their upcoming album Fluorescence. Singer Yuki is just adorable and was wearing the cutest jacket ever, so we swapped some fashion tips and I'll be on the hunt for my own cute jacket too.

Delta Flies Prisoners On Flights With YOU!

Is everyone out there aware that Delta flies prisoners on the same flights as their regular customers? I had no knowledge of this, but I did find out when I was flying home with Mat from our honeymoon! Nothing says romance like a sweaty guy in cuffs sitting across from you.

Now, Mat and I are both avid flyers and loyal Delta Sky Miles customers for years, but our confidence in Delta is completely shattered. Currently, I'm looking into airlines with a strict "no prisoners policy."

I don't know what upsets me the most, the fact I was sitting across from a convict, or that the officer escorting him was trying to bully us into swapping seats, or maybe it's because no one ever gave me the option to not take this flight.

Maybe I should tell the whole story:

We were flying back to NYC from our Disneyworld honeymoon and our seats just happened to be in the back of the plane, across from a creepy looking guy with a towel wrapped around his hand. Seated next to him was a man in a suit. Another man in a suit was stood up at the back of the plane.

Mat and I were across from them and there was an empty seat next to me by the window. The standing suit man took the seat in front of us, until a family showed up with the ticket showing that was their seat. Once everyone took their spots, the man in a suit quietly asks Mat if we'll swap seats so he can sit with us.

I tell Mat no way, we're on our honeymoon and it's our lucky day this is an empty seat. The man in the suit then explains he's an officer transporting a prisoner and it's against policy for them to sit next to their prisoners. Ummmmm whaaat???

Mat explains that we are on our honeymoon and we don't want to trade seats. But the officer is not backing down and starts using bullying tactics with his supposed position of authority to get us to move over so he can have our seat. He says he doesn't want the other passengers to KNOW there is a prisoner on board, and that we need to move.

This can't be right. If it's true that it's against their policy to fly next to their prisoners, then why didn't they buy an extra seat? And why are they trying to take seats away from other passengers? Obviously, he's not going to threaten Mat.

Mat gets the flight attendant involved and asks if we will have to switch seats. She asks to see our tickets, and of course, we're in the right place and she tells the officer he will have to take his own seat. He finally sits down, but makes his partner scoot over and take the middle seat next to the prisoner.

Weird right? This situation is just weird. It doesn't make sense. You can't bring liquids on board, you can't bring lotion or shampoo, or nail files, or musical equipment, but you can bring PRISONERS???

I'm stunned. With all the increase in airport security, and all the care they take screening who can and can't fly, they let prisoners fly on board with regular customers?

I don't know if this guy is a murderer, a rapist, a child molester, or simply a jay walker, but after the officer alerted me to the fact he was his prisoner, let's just say my 2 1/2 hour flight was a nightmare. My mind was racing with thoughts as to who this guy was, what he could have possibly done, and what could happen to all of us if he got loose.

It didn't help that the stupid officer was such a bonehead and made such a scene so now the prisoner is staring at me because he knows that I know what's going on and he's clearly enjoying the fact I'm upset.

Mat told me not to look scared because the jerk was getting off on it. It just made me so mad. There were so many families on board with us. Right in front of us was a family with two small kids. What if that's a child molester sitting next to them?? Would they be ok with that?

Doubt it and that's one of the main things that bugs me about this. Delta didn't tell us. We should have been notified and given the option to take another flight.

When we book flights, we get to choose what time we fly, we choose where we want to sit, we choose chicken or pasta, we choose peanuts or pretzels. Where is the box to click "No flights with prisoners"?

To make matters worse, the officers take the prisoner's handcuffs off for a full 40 minutes so he can enjoy his peanuts. So the prisoner still has his rights to peanuts, and I don't have my right to choose whether or not I want to fly with him? How is this okay?

Anything could have happened when they took off his cuffs! If it's possible for men to take down a flight with box cutters, then it's just as conceivable that this guy could have punched both the officers unconscious and taken control of the plane.

He could have thrown those salty peanuts in the officer's eyes, and made his way to the cockpit and made his getaway.

Fortunately for us all, that didn't happen, and once he finished his bag of peanuts, they put the cuffs back on and wrapped his hands in the towel so no one would be suspicious.

Now I'm not a lawyer, but it seems to me like some kind of a law has been broken here. Those cuffs were on him for a reason. They never should have been taken off.

When we landed, we went to the complaint desk, except Delta doesn't have one. We found one of their representatives and when I told her about the situation, she says "yes Delta flies prisoners, everyone knows about this".

I don't think that's exactly true. But as a member of the media, I believe everyone has the right to know that Delta flies prisoners on their flights with regular customers.

While I am glad my tax dollars aren't going towards flying prisoners in private jets, I'm appalled that I'm not given the freedom to choose whether or not I want to share that flight with them.

If Delta decides to continue flying prisoners on their planes, then they need to at least give their customers the right to choose whether or not they want to be on the same flight as them.

If they can't at least give us that right to decide for ourselves, then I think we should all find an airline that will. I know that I plan to from now on!

The Radio Dept on Guilty Pleasure

Kordan on Guilty Pleasure

Finally, after long last, Kordan were guests on my show tonight. So sweet, so talented, and so much fun to interview. Seriously, one of the sweetest bands I've had on my show yet. They played me tracks off the new album, which I'm really loving.

I've been a fan of Kordan ever since a friend of theirs emailed me an early demo. I really liked it and started to play it right away on my show. From that point on, whenever Arthur from Kordan finished a track, he would send it to me and I would air it on Guilty Pleasure.

I've talked about this on the blog before, but I'm just so proud of this band. It's wonderful how much they've grown into their sound. So much has happened for Kordan this past year and tomorrow their debut album comes out. They have a release party on Wednesday and some CMJ showcases next week, so please go see them for yourself.

Kordan makes beautiful, dreamy, synthy, poppy music. Their first single is Mirror, and here's the video.

All Hail Jump Into The Gospel

Jump Into The Gospel are one of the best new emerging guitar driven dancy indie bands in NYC. They've been keeping a somewhat low profile, which is hard to do in this city when you have talent like these guys. But that's only because they're busily working on material for their first album.

The band is steadily building up a really solid fan base out of all the pretty lower east siders, and their new songs are so catchy that it's killing me. I can't wait for everyone to hear all their new songs. Each new song they write is even better than the last, which let's face it, is a hard thing for the majority of acts these days to follow. Every song can stand alone, but also has a hint of the song that preceded it.

I just love them. You will find me at every single one of their shows up front. They're playing on October 13 at the Studio at Webster Hall and I definitely recommend you come out to see them and their new tracks they're showcasing.

Humvee Mansion is likely to be their first single. They just put up this video on their myspace. So cute. I love the story of the Pied Piper. Very fitting for Jump Into The Gospel...they're so easily a band you will want to follow religiously. So do it!

Hugo on Guilty Pleasure

Thai soap sensation Hugo was a guest on my show tonight. He shares a practice space with Your Vegas and Mat told me good things about Hugo's music.

The EVR guys set it up so he would perform a song live in the booth, and it was his cool cover version of Jay Z's 99 Problems. His version includes a banjo.

We talked about his acting skills, the song he wrote for Beyonce, and the 2 month residency he's doing at Rockwood 2 every Tuesday night.

Despite the nastiness that is the weather today and the rest of the week, Alex and Steve from White Rabbits made their long overdue debut on Guilty Pleasure tonight. They came equipped with acoustic guitars and performed two songs live on the show

We hung out, chatted about our second 4th of July together, and played more music. Mat was in the booth too helping out, and later in the show Maggie and Nick stopped by. Maggie is finally back in NYC! I'm so happy to have her back. James Franco walked by the station and I totally missed it.

White Belt Yellow Tag

Newcastle Band, White Belt Yellow Tag, were guests on my show tonight. Great guys, and very fun band, plus I think I really love the album. I haven't heard the whole thing yet, but I've listened to a bit of it and love everything I've heard so far.

We discussed who we'd rather see live, Nirvana or Queen. They voted for Nirvana but I don't think I could handle their crowds, so I was on Team Queen. Go Freddie! We also voted who looks best in tights, Rod Stewart or Tina Turner. Rod has great legs.

The band hung out for a short visit before heading out to Brooklyn to perform at Union Hall. They're playing Tuesday night at Pianos, 9pm, and I intend on going.

Guilty Pleasure 05.24.10

Late start on Guilty Pleasure tonight. I woke up early, had a job interview planned, ate a healthy breakfast, did my work emails, and then my interview got bumped to tomorrow. Then between emails for Jump Into The Gospel and wedding stuff, I got sucked into 5 hours of emails and research.

Oh where does the time go? I did a lot of prepping for the show tonight and packed it full of great new songs and some tracks that are promising. I'm excited about this new Interpol song that definitely grows on you. Is Carlos D really out of the band? Because this bass line screams Carlos in my opinion.

The new Muse track for the latest Twilight installment is obviously an ode to Queen, but the lyrics are so beautiful, I'm thinking it could be a cool first dance song at the wedding. Not like this, but if it's done with just moody piano...really beautiful! I hope that wouldn't offend them!

Tonight was a great show on Guilty Pleasure. Two Door Cinema Club were my guests and we played a lot of tracks of their newly released album. Kev, Sam, and Alex also spun some tracks by bands they're into.

They're playing tomorrow night at Bell House and on Wednesday at Bowery Ballroom. I'm excited to see them live. The playlist tonight features some new tracks I've gotten into. I didn't post my playlist from last week...doh!

I was super swamped with work and packing for Atlanta. Mat and I were in Atlanta over the weekend for our engagement party. So much fun! I got to hang out with my family and new cousins.

We had a gorgeous cake courtesy of my aunt and my mom did an amazing job decorating the party. My dad did the catering, and there was also a Persian DJ and lots of friends and family. I got seriously hooked up with some jewelery.

There was some trouble at the airport on the way home. One of my parent's friends had given us a cake knife as a gift and I packed it on my carry on luggage along with all the other gifts and didn't think twice about it.

When airport security took me aside to check my luggage, they asked if they would find anything harmful in my bag and I said of course not. It wasn't until they pulled out the knife that I remembered I even had it.

Still, it's just a cake knife! They got really serious and I tried to explain we just had our engagement party and I packed all the gifts on my carry on and didn't connect the dots that it was a knife. I exclaimed, it's just a cake knife! It's like a big butter knife

He was not impressed. He was all, I understand, but you still tried to bring a knife on a plane. No I didn't. He starts telling me I'm in big trouble and I'm going to get fined and there will be penalties, and that's when I got really scared and started weeping and saying but it's not fair.

I don't think they were equipped to handle little me crying in the middle of airport security so they let me go. Sans cake knife. Dang. My cake knife! Wahhhhh!

Alcoholic Faith Mission on Guilty Pleasure

On Monday night I welcomed Danish band, Alcoholic Faith Mission. Two of the five member band came by to play records off their new album and fill me in on upcoming gigs they have in the city.

I'm planning to go see them on Saturday night...even though it's going to be a busy day for me. At 1pm I have a meeting with a potential florist, then 2pm - 6pm I am spinning music at Madewell on Broadway and Broom, then rushing to Topman to purchase the groomsmen suits, then getting over to Mark and Kaki's engagement party, and from there going to see Alcoholic Faith Mission.

Guilty Pleasure 04.12.10 & 04.19.10

I've been busy, what can I say? Between Jump Into The Gospel, my fiancé, my kitty, and the wedding, there isn't much time for blogging. I will try to be better about it.

I just got back from Coachella. East Village Radio put on the most fun party ever with Levis at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs and I got to be a part of all the fun action.

We went out there, did live streaming over the weekend from the party and interviewed lots of great bands, like Temper Trap, Flying Lotus, Orbital, Andy Rourke, Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros, The Black Lips, Deerhunter, MUSE, White Rabbits, Maroon 5, Passion Pit, and more I'm probably forgetting.

The Levis and Converse gifting suites were well, pretty sweet. I felt awful because I was missing out on Mat's birthday, but I brought him back lots of goodies. He says now he'll look like a LES hipster...not really his steez but I'm confident he'll wear the converse boat shoes at least once or twice this summer.

We had such a busy schedule every day out there doing the live stream and interviews that I didn't go to the festival on Friday night, but I did manage to get down there on Saturday, thanks to Andy Rourke who hooked me up with a backstage wristband.

I'm no fan of festivals, mainly because they're over crowded, dirty, and the sound blows, but Coachella is my favorite of them because at least it's clean. The white picket fences in the artist area is an especially nice touch.

I hate to admit that I didn't really go see any bands, because I think it's super lame when people go to festivals and skip out on actually watching anyone because they're too busy in the vip areas, but but but....the lineup wasn't really too thrilling.

I caught a couple of MGMT songs, and wanted to die. It was really boring. I was very pleased that Faith No More played my favorite song "Epic". Mostly I was moaning all weekend that Gary Numan canceled because of the volcano. I really wanted to talk with him about Mighty Boosh.

Of course I watched Muse and loved every single enthralling second of it. They can do no wrong. They had this amazing firework sprinkling display that looked like the guys were nearly going to be caught on fire. When I met up with them to chat after the gig, Dominic mentioned that he could smell singing hair.

The best part of the weekend was catching up with my LA friends, James and Mickey, and bonding more with the EVR crew. We're like a big family now. I was the only girl who came out with them, so it felt like I had 7 older brothers looking out for me. Andrew Andrew, Tim Love Lee, Tony the Tux, Pete and Frank and Jeff were all so great and we had a lot of fun.

The Ace Hotel was quite the celeb hot spot over the weekend. A few of the festival bands were staying there, like Tom Morello, who I finally got to meet, and also Flea and Thom Yorke, who were both there with their respective families. Totally weird eating my breakfast across from Thom Yorke. I tried not to stare.

Some memorable moments: seeing Muse, Thom Yorke without his shirt on by the pool strutting around the party to the music, nearly being trampled for the SECOND time by Paris Hilton's paparazzi, making sandwiches for the EVR team, getting In and Out with Tim and Tony, and dancing on stage to my favorite tunes while spinning for EVR at the party.

Penguin Prison on Guilty Pleasure

Tonight on Guilty Pleasure was super fun. Chris Glover aka Penguin Prison was my guest and we had a great time talking about music and what new bands we're into and who we think stink.

He played his four songs that are out now via blogs and also some of his latest remixes. I got to hear one of his yet to be released songs on his iPod and it's really good! I'm very excited to see him play live with his band this Thursday at Mercury Lounge.

Thursday is also me and Mat's one year anniversary. We have a big day planned. My grandparents and my parents will be in town, so first up, we're visiting our top 4 NYC venues to finalize where we will have the wedding.

Then we're going to see my top two wedding dress picks (Mat can't come to that) and hopefully I will finally decide which dress I want to wear. After that, Mat and I will run away and have a romantic dinner just the two of us and go see Solid Gold and Penguin Prison play at Mercury.

Ash & Dappled Cities on Guilty Pleasure

Last Monday I welcomed my long time favorites Ash on my show, followed by Australian band Dappled Cities. Tim and Mark from Ash came by to showcase some of their new singles and to invite guests to their not so secret Santos gig.

I'm loving all their new songs so much! Their Santos gig was lots of fun. They pulled in Russell from Bloc Party to play guitar and it was a great show.

After Ash, Dave from Dappled Cities dropped by to have a chat and play songs off their new album Zounds. He was really funny, which made the interview very easy.

Guilty Pleasure 03.15.10

It was good to finally get out of the house on Monday and do this set. I've been in a wedding planning whirlwind. The wedding is seven months away, and I don't have a venue, no dress, no caterer, no florist, no photographer.....I got a groom and a DJ.

Sigh. Eloping is sounding like a brilliant plan. Before getting engaged, I could never understand why anyone would elope. Now I get it. I also understand now why it takes a year or more to plan a wedding.

When I met with my wedding planner on Saturday and she asked me if I had found a dress yet, I told her I was just focusing on finding a venue first, then all the other stuff. She quickly filled me in: I have to basically find everything for the wedding within the next two weeks.

You have to make appointments for everything. An appointment just to try on dresses, and it takes weeks sometimes to get an appointment. Then you hopefully find the dress, but it's not like you buy it and take it home. You buy it, and then months later it arrives. You make another appointment for a fitting, and months later it arrives again for your next fitting. The whole process can take up to seven months.

Same deal with caterers and florists, and photographers, etc etc. I gotta be making appointments with all of them now, and going in for tastings, and signing contracts, blah blah blah YIKES. So I have barely slept in the past couple days, searching the internet compiling a list of my top everything.

Mat and I are going to LA on Thursday for Persian New Year. He's going to meet my dad's side of the family (my aunts) and my new baby cousin. Plus, my mom is out there and she's taking me to try on wedding dresses for the very first time. My best friend Maggie is out in LA right now too, so hopefully she can come as well.

I'm really nervous about this actually. I've never worn a long dress before. I'm only 5'1, so I'm pretty much in a super mini every single day of the week, day and night. I have this feeling like a long dress will make me look even smaller and younger. Like I'm a kid playing dress up.

Also, I never wear white. I think it will make me look washed out. Oh man, I don't know. I guess it's just nerves. I hope I find a nice dress that will make me look pretty :) And tall :)

Anyway, this is all that's been going on in my head, so it was nice to do the show on Monday and not think about all this and instead, play some awesome new tunes. Hope you enjoy!

Guilty Pleasure 03.08.10

Yay, I'm back in NYC! Leeds was amazing. Mat took me to the beautiful English countryside to meet his family and they are so lovely. The whole vacation was jam packed with fun day trips and amazing scenery.

It was really cool getting a glimpse of Mat's upbringing. I got to visit his old schools, the different places he used to live and where he used to hang out. We spent lots of time with his very cool parents, his sister and her boyfriend and their gorgeous little boy, his great aunt, his grandparents and his uncle.

Now that I'm back and had the chance to talk to my family, it's safe for me to say that Mat and I are engaged! Yippie. He proposed in the most amazing and romantic way. That man knows me so well.

His parents took us on this really great day trip through the windy English roads to visit his great aunt. She lives in totally cute 300 year old home, complete with sheep and decked out with all that English charm. Her home is dying for a visit from Antiques Roadshow. Every room is filled with history and she's a very sharp lady, and showed us lots.

We hung out with the little lamb in her backyard and then had a big lunch that Mat's mom prepared. After we ate, we hung out in front of the fire having tea, and Mat asked if I wanted to look around the house.

I can't explain how magical his aunt's home is. There's so much to see, so much to look at. We were admiring a china cabinet of hers, filled with 200 year old plates with barely a chip on it. This is what we were eating off of. She had these Victorian Valentines, that she's saved, pretty perfume bottles, and an antique coin purse.

Inside a vase, we found a necklace. I didn't think much of it, because my great grandmother used to hide things around the house too. While I was looking at some paintings, Mat said he found something in another vase. When I went to look, there was a ring box inside. I just assumed it was hers.

I open the box and there is the most beautiful diamond ring inside. I was a little jealous though, because I knew it didn't belong to me, and I really wished that it did. I'm kinda slow.

Mat gets on his knee, and that's when I figure out what's going on, and suddenly without anticipating such a reaction, I started to cry. I never thought I would have reacted that way. It was uncontrollable. It was a little scary too. But incredibly sweet and romantic.

He was trying to propose and I couldn't stop crying. I couldn't even take the ring out of the box. I just held it, slightly shaking. There was a chair nearby and I had to sit down. Meanwhile, Mat is still on his knee, trying to ask. He does, and I stop crying and accept.

It was really cool. We went out and his parents and aunt were waiting for us, so it was really nice to celebrate there with them. On the ride back, through all those windy roads, I got really car sick because I couldn't stop staring at my ring. I am obsessed with it.

Anyway, we've been engaged for a week and if it's possible, I am even more in love with this man than ever.

Bear In Heaven on Guilty Pleasure

While I was away in Leeds with Mat, the lovely and amazing Abbey Braden filled in for me again and interviewed Bear In Heaven. Abbey and I went to see them play with Mon Kymer and Secret Machines the week before at Glasslands and loved it.

The band played their "hit" twice and I think I'm into that. I think it's okay for a band to play their single twice in a set. You know we're all wishing the band would play their singles again, so it's nice there's a band who actually does it.

The very cool Mon Khmer were on my show Monday night. Their agent dropped me a line a few weeks ago telling me I should check the band out. He told me the band is playing a show this Friday with Bear In Heaven and Secret Machines, two bands I really like.

I listened to a few songs on their myspace and booked them immediately for an episode of Guilty Pleasure. The guys came in and played a few of their tracks, yet to be released, and we chatted a bit. They're pretty funny.

Valentine's Day Edition of Guilty Pleasure

In honor of Valentine's day this Sunday, I dedicated this installment of Guilty Pleasure to songs of love, lust, and heartbreak (since not everyone is happy in love this time of year). I fortunately am one of those lucky girls happily in love this year, so I was feeling well inspired to play lots of sappy love songs. Or as Mat would say, soppy love songs.

Here's a photo of us at the Hot Chip/We Are Wolves party that GBH threw on Saturday night at Brooklyn Bowl. I opened for We Are Wolves and I was full of nerves. I spun in front of about 600 people and that's about 400 more than I'm used to. It went well though, and people danced. Phew.

I was very sleepy last night and I think my mellow set shows it. I got to play a few really cool new covers I've gotten my hands on, like that Florence & The Machine cover of Addicted to Love. And the Cloud Room's version of New Order's Blue Monday. So good!

I broke the rules of playing demos yet again, and played an un-mastered and very brand new mix of Jump Into The Gospel's newest song, Humvee. They just sent me that mix last night and I was really feeling it.

It sounds just about done to me, so I played it and the listeners responded. The feedback was pretty impressive. Abbey texted the station to say: THIS JITG SONG IS BANANAS! I AM SEEING GLITTER AND STARS AND UNICORNS, IT'S PERFECT!

Happy new year everyone! I'm thrilled that the first band on my show in 2010 is My Teenage Stride. Been a fan of these guys ever since I caught them playing at my friend Gustaf's backyard BBQ party about two summers ago.

Holiday Edition of Guilty Pleasure

Happy Holidays everyone! Hope everyone is enjoying their break and spending time with their loved ones. Mat and I weren't able to go to Leeds, but we had a great Christmas anyway. Mark and Kaki had people over theirs, and cooked an amazing meal for us. We spent the night playing games and it was a lot of fun.

Mat took me to the ice rink at Central Park and we spent the afternoon skating. I wore my special ice skating outfit that Mat bought me for xmas. It's the cutest little black princess dress, and he got me matching scarf and hat.

I'm quite proud of myself for not falling once. Mat didn't fall either. We are so balanced. Here are two videos of us on the rink.

Bayan Rocking Out

It's been a while since I last updated you on my little cousin Bayan. In addition to speaking French, Farsi, and English, this little cutie also plays the guitar. Total future heartbreaker, right?

More Thanksgiving Photos

There are still a ton of photos being sent my way from my family Thanksgiving weekend in Destin. Here are some photos my sister Shayda took. She got some great shots of my turkey, including this one with me and my turkey together.

Check out the size of that thing. Keep in mind, I am 5'1, and that turkey is about 24 pounds. It looks bigger than my entire upper body. It was a beast.

Here are some shots of the table with all the food that everyone contributed. Plus the centerpiece my mom made.

On our last day, we took a bunch of group photos on the beach. My uncle took these. I have a hard time seeing in daylight obviously.

While I was shielding my eyes from the light, Mat hung out with my family.

I think I'm picking a wedgie in this photo? Maybe. Mat is also much taller than me, which is why I brought my heels even to the beach.

My aunt Roya organized a little marathon and it was divided up into age groups, so it would be fair. The above 30 ladies group:

Thanksgiving in Destin '09

Let me begin with a warning: I have a huge family. Sometimes people say that, and then there are like 20 people at their reunions. When I say that, I mean, there are over 100 of us.

On this Thanksgiving, 68 of our "closest" relatives" (aka the ones who were able to travel to Destin) all gathered to celebrate that we're thankful for each other.

Here are a series of photos my uncle Navid took. I'm sure there are about 300 more on their way from everyone else, but this is a good place to start.

Every Thanksgiving, we all get together and drive down to Destin, Florida where my grandparents and my great aunt and uncle have their beach condos. We were right on the beach and it's probably my most favorite beach in the world. Check out our view

My grandparents rented out a bunch of condos on the beach front, and my aunt Marjan had the task of figuring out where everyone should sleep. Here she is with the ten page list with rooms and numbers.

We ate lots, played games lots, and basically just kept ourselves entertained. Mat and Sebastien played music for us at the family talent show.

Bayan, who is getting even cuter, played us a song on his baby guitar. Please note the baby skinny jeans, rolled to perfection and the cool hair.

On Thursday, a lot of us were cooking most the day, while others were outside playing football on the beach. There were a few injuries.

I was indoors the whole day working on my turkey. Our cooking deadline was 5pm, but that got pushed up to 6pm for dinner. As everyone brought in their dishes, the rest of the family screamed in excitements and took photos.

Guilty Pleasure 11.30.09

Back from my big Thanksgiving weekend in Destin, Florida, with 68 family members. That's not even all of them...there are more, if you can believe it. So much fun. Long ass drive though. Took us about 9 hours to do a 6 hour drive. We did a lot of stopping.

We each were responsible for a dish, and I volunteered to do one of the turkeys. I also made artichoke stuffing and apple crumble with vanilla ice cream for dessert.

The turkey was a giant pain. I've never spent so much time with any one poultry. I think there were a couple family members that I didn't get to spend as much time with on the trip because I was with my turkey for so long. I should have named it.

I started getting the turkey ready on Tuesday night. I decided to brine it in apple juice and orange juice, cloves, bay leaves, and lots of brown sugar for 24 hours. Wednesday night I washed it again, and then let it dry overnight. Early Thursday morning I started the cooking process.

I started breast side up (by mistake) and basted every thirty minutes. After about 2 hours in, I noticed the top of the breast was getting pretty brown and that's when I realized I mistakenly was cooking it breast up.

I'm sure you're confused because everyone cooks breast up, but that's not how I like to cook my turkey. So I had Mat flip it, which was difficult because this was a 20 pound turkey, and it was boiling hot, and it is hard to do with just two tongs. He dropped it in the pan, and we lost a lot of the basting juice.

I was sad, but it was still really juicy in there. The rest of the three hours I cooked the turkey breast side down, this way the breast was super juicy. The last hour, I got my maple apple honey glaze ready, and started glazing it every thirty minutes.

The last 20 minutes, we flipped it back over again and re-glazed all over and it was the perfect golden brown color. When it was finally done, I gave it one last glaze and it was so shiny and smelled super yummy. I packed it with the artichoke stuffing, and we took it up to the dinner.

It was Mat's first time meeting the family and he handled it very well. Actually, I think he handled it better than me. Sixty eight people smiling at you, talking excitedly, asking you questions, and wanting to know what you're up to....it can be scary. But everyone loved him, as I expected, and we had a great time.

The Mary Onettes on Guilty Pleasure

Swedish act The Mary Onettes dropped by my show tonight to play a few songs off their album, which is out tomorrow. I've been into them ever since Josh from Blacklist turned me on to their songs, so it was nice to get the new album and meet the guys.

They were a bit shy, so there isn't too much talking. I also played a few new songs tonight, plus some great covers I haven't played before. I leave in the morning for LA, and I have to put together a Baby Shower mix. I'm thinking some of these songs might do the trick.

Guilty Pleasure 10.26.09

Thank the sweet lord CMJ week is over. Generally I love CMJ week, and I did have a really good time this year, but I'm still happy everyone is gone.

I think mostly, I was just feeling the stress and nervousness/excitement over my first showcase for Guilty Pleasure. All the worrying paid off though, because the night was a complete success and I'm so thankful to all the bands, the fans, and encouragement and support of everyone who came out.

PureVolume is awesome and they know how to throw a good party. The sound was great, everyone was really helpful and nice, and all the bands got alone and had a good time. They were getting free drinks all night plus massages up in the VIP area, so really, there were no complaints!

What a great night. Jump Into The Gospel played their best set yet, Home Video got everyone moving, U.S. Royalty played their most fun set ever, and Pete & The Pirates just made everyone overjoyed. We Are Wolves had to pull out the last minute but no one seemed to notice with all the awesomeness of the other bands.

I DJed a bit in between the sets and gave away free Guilty Pleasure t-shirts that EVR made for me. We're gonna get them reprinted though and fix the way they look.

Tonight, I started out the set with a track off the new Rakes album and sadly had to announce that the band has broken up. Jamie has started managing a new group called Official Secrets Act and I need to reach out to the others to see what their plans are.

Ben from Jump Into The Gospel is gutted, especially as just a few days ago he was telling me how excited he was that the Rakes would be back in NYC soon touring. Well, that is obviously off now. Sad news :(

Played a couple other new ones including a new song by Kordan, who I love, and A Place To Bury Strangers, who I have heard of but finally decided to get into. Thanks to Sean at Battery In Your Leg for supplying some of the tracks tonight.

Louis from Jump Into The Gospel popped by for a little hello and we talked about how the recording for their first EP is coming along. I can't wait for it to be ready. Sarah Silverman also walked by the booth tonight and smiled at me as I played the Kish Mauve track. She seemed into it.

I ran into Robert from BRMC last week and he says he's sending me a 7" as soon as it's ready. I love new music :)

Midnight Juggernauts on Guilty Pleasure

I had my fingers crossed all day that Midnight Juggernauts would fly into JFK in time to come on my radio show tonight, and to my shock and amazement, that's exactly what happened.

I didn't want to say anything prior in case they couldn't come, but in the end, the got into the cab from the airport and the promise of beers and pizzas and good tunes was too much for them to resist.

The band showed up and we chatted about their upcoming album, what shows they're doing this week for CMJ, and played some music. I also tried out some new songs I haven't played on the show before, so I hope you enjoy!

I'll be doing a show for EVR tomorrow 2-4pm, and it will be a CMJ theme show with lots of special guests!

Trees, Mountains, and Fresh Air

Last Tuesday, Mat and I were treated to a much needed vacation in the Catskills. It was a first for us both, so we were especially excited.

My mom booked us a room at the swanky Emerson Resort and Spa. Getting there was simply enough, we just hopped on the two hour bus up to Mount Treper. It's hard to imagine for many, but there is a New York beyond New York City.

The only problem with the mountains is that there is no cell reception up there. I thought maybe there was a problem with our room, but the hotel staff laughed and said, "welcome to the country". Wow. Panic began to set in. What will I do for four days without mobile or internet access? What happens in an emergency? How do I communicate with the world what I am up to?

Mat was thrilled. This meant we couldn't be disturbed. We couldn't do any work. All we could do was relax, and that is exactly what we did.

Our room was impressive. We had a huge king size bed, fireplace, giant flat screen TV with DVD player, porch with views of the trees, big jacuzzi with whirlpool jets, one of those showers with stream coming down from the top AND the sides.

I made up a little itinerary of things for Mat and I to do, but once we got up there we realized that there was little we were going to accomplish without a car. There is no public transportation in the mountains.

Our first morning, Mat suggested we go for a hike. He knows I don't hike. He knows I'm not the camping, hiking, nature loving type of girl. The only time I ever went camping was at a 2 day music festival and I slept in the car, not the tent.

I told him to find us an easy trail. I figured he'd want to go for like 20 or 30 minutes only. That's normal right? I have to explain, that Mat grew up going hiking and camping. He loves it. I grew up watching Friday the 13th and half expected Jason to pop out from behind a tree to chop off my head.

We got driven to the trail Mat picked out and I'm excited for our nature walk, despite my initial fears. I even wore jeans and sneakers! The air is completely different up there. Everything smells so good and it's so much easier to breath. There are no pigeons. No city rats. Just cute little animals and beautiful trees.

The minutes are quickly passing by though and after the first few trees, they're all starting to look exactly the same, and I'm thinking, how long is this hike? And he tells me it's five miles. That's a lot isn't it? What's five miles? Mat reassures me that five miles is nothing.

Meanwhile, parts of my body which have never experienced work, were starting to ache like nothing before. I was looking over my shoulder for Jason to come take me outta my misery, but it was just another stupid chipmunk. Old people well into their late 40's and 50's were blazing past us on the trail, while I begged for a three minute break on every rock we passed by.

Poor Mat, he had it much worse though, because he had bad shoes on. Plus, it didn't help that he had to carry me up part of the way. Well, he didn't have to, he offered, and I happily accepted. He is strong. Like really really strong. I was very impressed.

Along the way, we discovered this abandoned hotel from the beginning of the century or something. It was really cool and creepy looking. I thought maybe it was an old mental asylum for all the people who went nuts living in the mountains, but we were told later it was an old hotel.

When we reached the top, it was worth it though. We could see all the mountains and little rivers. Look how pretty it is up here. Plus, on the hike back down, we saw deer!

The rest of our trip, we were extremely sore, so we got massages at the spa and body wraps. The hotel had a bunch of free DVDs for us to watch and we saw some cool movies and just relaxed.

Guilty Pleasure 10.12.09

I have been so busy lately, I can't even begin to explain, but I do have the bruises to prove it. My back is sore, my head hurts, and I'm just run down. I got back from Atlanta and non stop cleaning, organizing, looking for new furniture, trying to sell my old stuff, getting rid of my clothes, my cds, my vinyl, everything must go.

Plus, managing Jump Into The Gospel full time. They just got back from recording upstate with French Horn Rebellion and this week getting the tracks mixed and mastered. We are in search of the right logo and artwork for our first EP, all of this is due Wednesday mind you.

Diesel is gonna start playing their song Flagship on iTunes and in all their stores globally and lots of paperwork to read through with the lawyer. OOoooof! But it's getting done. It's all getting done.

On top of that, I got hooked up doing the closing party at the Pure Volume house, and we're making it a Guilty Pleasure after hours party. How excited am I? So much. I got Home Video, U.S. Royalty, Jump Into The Gospel, Pete & The Pirates, AND We Are Wolves. Are you kidding? This is my dream come true line up. All Guilty Pleasure favorites and all of them have been guests, so it works out so perfect.

Anyway, that is why I am SO THRILLED to be going on vacation tomorrow with Mat. We're going up to the Catskills. Neither of us have ever been and we're both in dire need of relaxing. I have booked us time at the spa for massages and wraps, and we're getting fancy diners at the culinary institute and I promised Mat I will go hiking.

I mean, how long does he want to hike for? Twenty minutes? Thirty? I draw the line at 45 minutes. I laughed when he first suggested it, but it is his vacation too. Plus, I'm sure it will be nice to see all the trees and mountains and the Hudson River Valley. Plus, the hotel is gonna pack us a picnic :)

He's agreed to go antiquing with me. We're gonna check out the world's largest Kaleidescope!

Just a Theory

At the recent U2/Muse gig at Giants Stadium, a fan covered in tattoos, managed to jump on stage, throw his arm around Bono, and make a request for his sick mother.

Bono addressed the crowd with the man's request and the band jumped right into the song and dedicated it to the guy's mom.

When Dominic told me this story (this is from the first night, and I was at the second show), I was really impressed. Wow, Bono is such a great guy. But then Dom interjected and laughed saying it was so staged.

He made a good point. With all that crazy security around, some random dude was able to rush on stage, grab Bono, make a request, and then Bono accepts this request and the band is able to go right into it???

Dom must be right, it was totally staged. Why? It makes the band look like heroes.

That made me think about the recent VMA "scandal" where Kanye stole the mic from Taylor Swift. It had to be staged too right???

There is security everywhere at these things. Kanye was able to jump on stage without being touched by security? He was able to take the mic from her hand, and then embarrass her on stage in front of everyone? And still no one came to take him away?

When I think back to Taylor's reaction and Beyonce's reaction, I don't believe in it anymore. Beyonce didn't look that surprised, she was even kinda laughing. Taylor just stood there and took it. Neither of them are good actresses, obviously.

A real reaction woulda been closer to that of everyone in the audience, who would have definitely been in the dark. I think the only people in on this was Beyonce, Kanye and Taylor.

It makes more sense when later, Beyonce let's Taylor have her moment when she wins. It's like the whole thing was planned: MTV let's Taylor win that first award to be embarrassed on stage and then Beyonce gets the big award and let's Taylor have it.

When Beyonce got on stage to accept, her speech was too rehearsed and then pop, there's Taylor. She just magically appears with a mic already in her hand and her speech ready to go.

I don't buy it. MTV has to shock people...no one would watch the VMAs otherwise. Every year something "shocking" happens. At the last awards, they had Bruno stick his balls in Eminems' face and no one knew if it was a joke or for real. It's a joke.

Anyway, that's my theory. Everything on TV is fake. This is all staged. Nothing we see on TV is sincere.

Home Video on Guilty Pleasure

Home Video joined me on Guilty Pleasure tonight. I have been playing their songs for a while, and it was great to finally meet them in person and hear more of their music. They even played a yet to be released song for the first time!

The band is based in Brooklyn and their music has been featured on Gossip Girl and you can hear them this week on Private Practice. Collin and David, who make up Home Video, were very nice and spun some tracks by bands they're into.

I had to call out Collin for wearing a Home Video shirt on the show. He claims it was because he has yet to do his laundry ;) They'll be doing a free show at the Studio at Webster Hall this Monday, so come out!

Tomorrow is the Yeah Yeah Yeahs gig in Brooklyn and I'm so excited to see them! Playlist below:

My Cat is Weird

I might be obsessed with my cat. But for real, he is so awesome. You'll never meet a cooler cat. He's the sleekest black little kitty, with white socks and white gloves for paws. Mat says he's the new michael jackson.

He's got good moves too. He'll do flips in the air to catch his string. He hides in boxes and crawls around under cardboard. He always runs to the door to greet me and will jump into my arms on command.

People say he's more like a dog than a cat. I find that a little offensive though. Dogs are not cooler than cats. A cat doesn't have to be like a dog to be cool. Magellan is definitely the cutest and coolest.

He plays in the sink and likes getting wet.

He loves to cuddle with me and will follow me around room to room waiting for me to sit down so he can nap on me. His meow is so cute, and he's always trying to tell me something. I wish I could read his mind. Sometimes I think I can.

White Lies at Webster Hall

Friday night I took Muse to see White Lies. My Mat (Steel) came too and we were dressed pretty goth. I was wearing a black lace mini sheath, and Mat wore his new black button down with the little collar, and his suit jacket and black jeans. I wish I had gotten a photo :(

White Lies were incredible. I think this was their best NYC gig yet. They thought it was their best gig ever, but I still think their performance at Stubbs during SXSW this year hasn't been topped. They played as the sun set and just killed it.

I could tell Matt and Dom were really into it. Tom and I were singing along to all the songs. Here's a clip I filmed of To Lose My Life:

The band had a super early flight to Canada in the morning, but Charles still wanted to come out with us. I thought we could kidnap him, but it just didn't work out. The rest of us went to Denise's after party for Passion Pit and Phoenix.

It was at Susan Surandon's new club SPiN and that place is really cool. Denise did a great job. There was a ping pong tournament going on, DJs in both rooms spinning good music and free drinks. Everyone was really happy.

The ping pong was awesome. They are such pros. We watched that most of the night until it ended and then went to the back room to hang out and mingle. Fun fun.

We celebrated my birthday a little early on Saturday and all met up at Cabin. I know how exhausted everyone was, including myself, so it meant a lot that everyone came out :)

Ended up staying out much later than I had expected. Masha, Tom, Mat, J and I grabbed some pizza upstairs at the end of the night and braved the rain in search of cabs. When I got home, Mat gave me my birthday present: new Bose speakers for my computer!

I'm so excited. Everyone has been complaining for YEARS how much my computer speakers suck. They say I can't listen to music on the speakers I used to have and they are right. These new speakers are amazing. I'm re-listening to all my songs and hearing things I never realized where there before. Good stuff.

Today Masha and I went to where Mat is working for Brunch. We had so much food. Mat is taking me out to a fancy dinner tonight, so I am not eating anything until our dinner at 8pm. I know what I want to wear, but no idea where he's taking me.

Muse will still be in town Monday night so fingers crossed I can get them on the radio show. I have Home Video scheduled to be on the show too, so it will be a good one. Listen live from 8-10pm!

Muse and U2 at Giants Stadium

My whole body aches from exhaustion, and the week still isn't over. Not that I'm complaining, because it's been so fun. Wednesday night I could barely get any sleep because I was so excited about getting to see Muse open for U2 the next day.

Mat and I took the train to Giants Stadium and as I was walking towards the complex I suddenly remembered, I've been here before. I knew this because I remembered feeling the same way: confused and tiny.

I started thinking back..when was I last here? Funnily enough, the last time I was at Giants Stadium was to see Muse. It was when they played Bamboozled fest.

We picked up our tix and wristbands from will call and enter the building to find out that we're basically right under the stage. Muse opened with Knights of Cydonia and we moved back because standing that close, you can't actually hear anything except the sound bouncing back.

They sounded incredible from where we stood. Here's a clip of them doing Starlight. I'm quite impressed with my crappy camera. The sound quality is pretty good.

We went back to our special zone to wait for U2 to come out. Now, I've never been a U2 fan. I do like their older songs, but it's my mom who is the big fan. I wasn't really that excited to see them, and I was only there for Muse, but I have to admit that we did get swept up in the commotion while everyone was waiting for U2 to walk out on stage.

Mat and I were right up front by where they were meant to walk out. They blasted "Space Oddity" on the speakers and as Bowie does his countdown, everyone started losing their minds. It was a little ridiculous. Especially as prince Bono and company took their time getting photographed in the pit.

You can see some flashes going off in this clip. Finally they come out and the lights go dim, but you can still make out Bono and The Edge in the end of this video walking on stage.

We left that area to join Muse on the side of the field and watch the show. They sounded great, but I just don't know any of the new U2 songs. Dom told me that they play the older stuff towards the end, but we couldn't stick around for 3 hours waiting for that to happen.

Mat is a fan, so he was pretty excited even though he didn't want to admit it. He's seen some documentary about The Edge and was telling me how he has 32 guitars with him on tour, and they're all stored under the stage. He's got two of each kind.

It was weird hearing Bono call The Edge, The Edge on stage. I wonder if they walk around yelling "hey The Edge, what you want from Mcdonalds?" or "The Edge, you coming over tonight?".

Ohhh, and Dom told us that they have session musicians hidden away under the stage performing along to their set. So weird. Bono was giving them shout outs as the people in the "underworld". LOL that's really funny actually.

Here's U2 doing Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For. Hearing 80,000 people sing along to the song sent chills down my spine. Then in the end, they go into Stand By Me and everyone keeps singing along. 80,000... so insane! It was a really cool moment. I'm just so happy I got to be there with Mat and my friends :)

Muse gave us a ride back into the city and we grabbed dinner at their restaurant. That is one swanky place. Robert Dinero owns it! Tom was at the gym every morning and would race Eminem on the tredmill.

Ok, so let me point out quickly, even though I live in NYC, and there are lots of people here, I'm still not jaded. Spotting celebrities is funny and exciting. I can't help it. I don't hang out with them, they're not my friends, so when I see one, it's a little exciting.

Ben Stiller was sitting across from us at dinner eating with the villain from that movie Hackers. We had a quick meal and then headed to the U2 after party. Muse was nice enough to let me and Mat come with them.

I was basically going omg all night to Kari and Gaia. We walk in and Matt and Dom are being introduced to The Edge. I still can't believe everyone calls him that. When we get to the bar, Bono is stood behind us getting photographed with Kanye West.

I was a little surprised he was invited, but then when they got the photos taken together, I figured it was just a way for Kanye to try to get on people's good side again. Maybe? No one else there was taking photos.

Umm who else was there...Gerard Butler was hanging out with Jon Bon Jovi, Peter Saarsagard (I know I'm spelling that wrong), and there were lots of models. I think I was most starstruck over Clive Owen though. I gave Mat a big hug and he was all "aww what's that for?" and I'm all "sorry, Clive Owen is standing right behind you and I have to get a better look". I'm awful.

Kari was encouraging me to go talk to him and I thought I finally worked up the nerve but then he was in a huddle with a bunch of people and there was no way. Plus I had nothing to say to him except, Hi I'm Elhaam.

I can't remember who else was there. We had a nice time though and it's always fun catching up with those guys and their girls. Tonight we're going to the White Lies gig. So happy!

Muse Inspired Guilty Pleasure

There was a slight possibility that Muse was going to be on my show Monday night, and I kept hope alive until the last 10 minutes of the show. They were keeping me updated on their moves.

They landed, they arrived to the hotel, and then they passed out. Seven hours on a flight and mega jet lagged will do it to anyone. But they sent their best and I got to play lots of tracks off the new Muse album.

I've been living inside this album all week and I'm obsessed. There is nothing like it in this world and Muse are genius. Who else can do this? Who else puts a three part symphony on an album and can still go out on tour with U2? No one. Muse rules.

I hope you enjoy the playlist. I'm really happy about this one. A few new bands included this week like Brakes Brakes Brakes, The Sound of Arrows, and brand new Midnight Juggernauts single.

I have the new We Are Wolves album too. They sent it over a couple weeks ago and I was so tempted to leak a track on the show last night, but they made me swear on kittens not to play it yet. I will say this: it's AWESOME!

Saturday we're all going out for my birthday and I hope a cake will be involved. I like balloons too. And shoes. I'm just sayin'. I will also be wishing Jesse and Ronnie a happy birthday.

Sunday is my actual birthday, and Mat (my Mat, not Bellamy Matt...just want to make that clear) is taking me out to a very fancy dinner somewhere. He won't tell me where, but he says I get to dress up. I already have my birthday dress picked out :)

Oh and in case you're wondering, I'm turning 21.

Okay fine, I'm turning 28. But it's not fair. Why? Why is this happening to me? Why can't we just be as old as we want? Remember when you were 13 and anyone over 25 seemed like a crazy old weirdo?

I remember thinking 25 was so old and that you might as well go live on a deserted island because it's all downhill after that. I walk around now, on the verge of turning 28, and all these little kids must be thinking I'm the enemy.

The last time I hung out with my little cousins, they're 10 and 13, they asked if I was still in high school. Um no, I'm done with high school. Then they ask, oh are you in college? Sigh, no I'm done with college too.

Their eyes get all big and worried and they ask, totally confused, so how old are you? I tell them the truth, and they look at me completely freaked out and disgusted.

The meanest thing I can think to say back is that one day it will happen to them too. HA!

Muse Is Awesome

My sister Shayda got into town a few days ago from Atlanta. Her boyfriend Lockett was also in town, to play with his band Deerhunter at All Tomorrow's Parties. We had a busy weekend, because a few of my cousins were in town and so was Taylor, Isaac, Zac and their families, plus Muse was in town, and Living Things.

Somehow I was able to meet up with everyone, except Living Things unfortunately. I took my cousins to meet up with Dom, Dominic, Matt, and Tom at Spotted Pig on Friday night after the Your Vegas gig at Canal Room.

Spent a few hours chatting and catching up before heading home. The next day my sis and I did some shopping and met up with my cousins after and went out to Cabin that night. I wanted to keep it an early night since we had list spots for Muse performance at VMAs the next day.

I took my sister and Mat and we were so excited as we walked up to the Walter Kerr Theatre where the performance was set to take place. Our seats were amazing! We were center of the balcony and seated next to Muse's agent Marsha.

We saw Gerard Butler coming in to do his little introduction. He looked great! Mat had to refrain from shouting SPARTANS at him. We had watched 300 the night before.

Muse's set was incredible. What else can I say? They came out and the audience flipped out, despite there being no air conditioning in the building and it was really hot in there. I would have danced more but I didn't want to get too sweaty.

They did a pretty full set, and then stopped it to change the backdrop for Uprising, which they were going to film live for the VMAs. The band did an amazing job and Matt Bellamy is the coolest performer ever. He has the best moves.

Muse would have done a longer set for the fans, but the stupid VMAs were running so late, and they had to cut the set. It was worth it though to hear a couple of the new songs off the album. I still can't believe this was their first US TV performance. It's scary that they have been so ignored by American press, even after all their success.

From there, we walked down to Radio City to check out the action. People were cheering for what seemed to be celebs walking out, but I guess I don't watch enough TV because I didn't recognize anyone.

My feet were hurting from my new strappy platforms I decided to wear for the night (they are so cute, but not the right night to break in a new pair of shoes), so we made our way to the Warner Bros VMA after party.

The party was a bit weird, I have to say. Green Day was there though, and the fifteen year old locked away inside me was freaking out a little. Tre Cool seems like such a fun guy, and was doing a little dance while waiting for the bathroom. I liked his moves.

Gabrielle Union was there, huddled away at a private table. Mena Suvari is as tiny as me and was dancing with her tiny man. They are the cutest tiny couple ever. Cobra Starship hung out for a bit before running off to another party at Angels and Kings.

Muse arrived really late and we hung out for a bit before leaving for Bungalow 8. A little tricky to get in there, but Dom always pulls strings for me, I love that man.

Inside it was packed and the DJ was annoying...what is up with the A.D.D. spinning technique that all these fancy new DJs are doing? Pick a song and stick with it, please.

We tried to do a bit of dancing, but it was a little hopeless because as soon as we got into a song, it would switch to another. Plus, what was up with the DJ playing so many Green Day and Bon Jovi songs when he KNEW both the bands were there hanging out? Felt a bit awkward.

I was in the middle of whispering something to Tom, when Sean Penn brushed past him. I grabbed Tom and asked, "Do you know who just touched you? Sean Penn". He looked so cool. He looked just like Sean Penn. I know it's weird to say that but it was weird to see him looking just like himself and with the long hair and the cool leather jacket, hanging out with Billie Joe. What am I doing here?

There is a really giant guy hanging out with the curly haired guy from Bon Jovi and when he stands up, I realize it's Sebastian Bach...singer of Skid Row. And then there's Nikki Hilton hanging out in the corner. Really, what is going on? A bit surreal.

Me, Mat, Lockett and Shayda mostly hang out with Dom, Dominic, Tom and Matt upstairs. Billie Joe left the party early to go hang with his wife, but us and everyone else stayed until closing.

I almost wish we had left sooner because I ended up sleeping in and missed the text from Jason saying to get over to the Studio at Webster at noon for the secret Glasvegas gig. Grrrr! So mad!

I couldn't go to their gig that night because I had to do Guilty Pleasure radio. Next time I guess.

Ohh, and we finally got to watch a recording of the VMAs. Madonna's speech was perfect. I got a bit teary. Not much to say about Kanye West's shocking behavior that hasn't already been said. He is loony. Why do people keep inviting him places?

Sarah's Birthday

Yippie! Sarah's party is this Friday. Mat and I have our DJ outfits ready to go and I'm working on a gift for Sarah. I'm thinking of baking something for the party. I love the flyer that Sarah made. I think the bananas are supposed to be me and Mat. Haha! Bananas!

My new roomate Masha moves in on Friday, so I've been tidying up lots. Magellan isn't making that easy though. He keeps finding things to play with. I don't have the heart to take things away from him. He's so cute. (PS I will get better at filming...eventually)

Ohhhh, and I'm thinking on going on a big road trip up California to see nature in October if anyone has suggestions where to go and stay? Or things to do? Thanks

Tomorrow we're going to see The Bravery play at Webster Hall. Michael will be singing his new song, and I think it's only like the 6th time he's singing it live. Very excited to hear him sing.

Guilty Pleasure 8.24.09

Boy was I wiped out today. Hence the laid back show tonight. Mat from Your Vegas kept me company, talked a little, help pick out some tunes, bought me a meat pie, and tolerated my dancing in the tiny booth.

My good friend Sarah is having a birthday party next week and she's asked Mat and I to DJ. All the DJs for the night are coming up with names and a theme and Mat suggested we go as DJs in PJs. I kinda love it.

Here we are at Target looking for pajamas. None of the adult ones were suitable, but we did find these one pieces. Onsies? How do you spell that?

I've watched this about a hundred times on my phone already and it keeps cracking me up. I really hope he wears this to the party. I have a matching one in pink!

Magellan Catches A Fly

I'm so happy I decided to adopt Magellan. He is such a sweet kitten. Magellan follows me around from room to room, always wants to cuddle on the couch, and even talks to me.

Here he is chasing a fly. He tracked the fly for about 30 minutes before he finally caught it. In the end, he wanted to eat the fly, which totally grossed me out, so I had to take it away from him and flush it.

Jaguar Club & U.S. Royalty on Guilty Pleasure

Tons of new songs on the show tonight. Almost all are new to Guilty Pleasure. I was excited tonight to start playing some of these new tracks.

To help break in the new songs, I had two special guests on the show tonight. Jaguar Club was up first. These guys are from Brooklyn and I recently got into some of their stuff. They hung out for a bit and played songs off their upcoming release.

U.S. Royalty came by later in the show and played two new songs acoustic, as well as a remix that Luke their drummer just finished of their track "Where Are You Now".

I got my kitty Magellan neutered on Saturday. I was worried it would scar him and he'd be different, but he's the same little happy kitty, bouncing and hopping around my apartment and purring on my lap. I love him!

ZAZA on Guilty Pleasure

Great show tonight with special guests, ZAZA. They're the newest band in the NYC scene and I'm starting to really get into their stuff. Their EP Cameo is out this Friday. They'll be holding their EP release party at Cameo, in BK, where they're playing live at 10pm.

Two of the three members came by the show for an interview. Jenny, who I knew back when she served time playing bass in the Warlocks, couldn't make it to the show. Drew and Danny hung out, played some tracks, and talked about their plans.

Some new music added to the playlist tonight (NEW MUSE!!!), as well as older favorites I haven't played in a while. Mat from Your Vegas dropped by around the end of the set, but even with much begging, he wouldn't let me play any more new demos.

The new EVR site has finally launched, but of course there are a few bugs they're working through. So have some patience, I'm trying to have it myself, and you'll be able to listen to the shows like always very soon.

In case you didn't catch the live show, last night I had two great guests on my show: Temper Trap and French Horn Rebellion. Temper Trap are very nice guys from Melbourne and they played some of their yet to be released new songs as well as some old tunes they're into.

Later in the show, Brooklyn DJs/producers French Horn Rebellion came over to play their new tracks and talk about their upcoming tour. They also discussed some of the ideas behind their upcoming concept album, but honestly, it was a bit beyond my comprehension. Maybe you'll understand.

Air Waves & Not On The Guest List on Guilty Pleasure

Busy show last night. First my friend Gustaf, who is back from Sweden, dropped by for a surprise hello. Then Air Waves came by for their guest DJ spot. It was just a coincidence that Gustaf was there since he's the reason I first heard of Air Waves.
About a year ago, Gustaf had an outdoor picnic and invited a bunch of Brooklyn bands to perform in his backyard. Air Waves was one of those bands and I was really impressed with their set and have been playing their songs on my show ever since.

Towards the end of the show, Nilina from Notontheguestlist.com came by to do a quick DJ set too. She's got amazing taste and I'm glad she was able to make it. Before she arrived, Gustaf, Nicole from Air Waves and I discussed Harry Potter.

I wanted to know if they could explain to me what is going on with those movies. I caught the marathon on TV the other night and as hard as I tried to get into it, I just don't understand the plot.

I feel stupid because I know this is meant for children, but honestly...it's so confusing. Why is everyone after Harry? How come everything revolves around him? Why is it up to him and his two sidekicks to solve all the mysteries? Even the teachers rely on him to figure it all out.

It's really weird. So much pressure on this little boy. I think what I found even more confusing were all the names. Everyone seemed to have the same name. Voldemont, Dumbledoor, Voldemore, Hogermont. How come they go to a wizard school? Are they still in the real world too? Where does this place exist?

How come they have to go to a school to learn magic if they're not allowed to use magic in the outside world? And why is it that Hermonie and Ron know more about magic than Harry? Is he slow? But he's the chosen one right? And chosen for what? I do not understand.

Anyway, the best part of the movie for me, was in the last one, goblet of fire I think, at the ball, when Jarvis Cocker is singing. I went and found the song and played it on the show.

Air Waves did a really cool set. Lots of local bands I haven't heard of yet. Nilina did a great job too and played lots I haven't played yet on the show. My cousin Payam also dropped in to say hi before we all took off for the Your Vegas' gig at the Studio.

Guilty Pleasure 7.06.09

Last night was so much fun. Started the show off with Yeah Yeah Yeahs and tried to include a few new tracks throughout the show.

I talked a bit about my plans, which included running off to see Your Vegas and U.S. Royalty at the Studio at Webster Hall. I booked the show, so I know I must sound biased, but seriously, it was the best gig I've been to all year.

Your Vegas should be headlining stadiums. It was my first time seeing them live and I knew they'd be good, but I had no idea just how amazing they are live. It was incredible. Every song sounds huge and their performance blew me away.

I can't wait to see them play again next Monday at the Studio with Casper Bangs. Come!
